A Prayer For You

Father, I ask
You to bless my friends, relatives and those
that I care deeply for, who are reading this
right now. Show them a new revelation of Your
love and power. Holy Spirit, I ask You to
minister to their spirit at this very moment.
Where there is pain, give them Your peace and
mercy. Where there is self-doubt, release a
renewed confidence through Your grace. Where
there is need, I ask you to fulfill their needs.
Bless their homes, families, finances, their
goings and their comings.
Amen.

Friends

Sometimes it's bumpy, but it's never long.
I got this from my friend Larry and just HAD to share!
I had a flat tire on the interstate, so I eased my car over to the shoulder of the road, carefully got out of the car and opened the trunk.

I took out 2 cardboard men, unfolded them and stood them at the rear of my car facing oncoming traffic.

They look so life like you wouldn't believe it!

They are in trench coats exposing their nude bodies to the approaching drivers. To my surprise, cars start slowing down looking at my lifelike men which made it safer for me to work at the side of the road.

And of course, traffic starts backing up. Everybody is tooting their horns and waving like crazy.

It wasn't long before a state trooper pulls up behind me.He gets out of his car and starts walking towards me. I could tell he was not a happy camper!'What's going on here?''My car has a flat tire', I said calmly.'Well, what are those obscene cardboard men doing here by the road?'I couldn't believe that he didn't know.. So I told him,

'Helloooooo, those are my Emergency Flashers.'

The Blog

Just out of curiosity, I looked to see when I started this blog. December 28, 2007! It says I have 385 posts. Wow! That's a whole lot of posts!!

I remember when I first started out. I was so afraid I wouldn't be able to do this. I thought to myself, "What will I ever say?" Well, obviously I've had quite a bit to say! LOL!!

For the most part, I put jokes or stories up, or I put up a favorite I Can Has Cheezeburger photo. Sometimes I have something to say. But for the most part, I enjoy making people laugh. I also like to make people think. I read each and every comment. I find that very important. If you care enough to stop by and leave a comment, I read it and then respond to let you know that I'm very glad you stopped by. I even have some followers! I think that is SO cool!

In this "almost" year I have made many, many wonderful friends. I have grown quite fond of all of you. There's, just to name a few, Carol, Jayne, Jan, Jenni, Daryl E, River Poet, Larry & SWMBO, St. Blogwen, Josh, Gregg, Anita, Sandi, Nathan (who I owe my start to), Steve (Brooklyn Parrots), Nikki, Jamie, Deanne, Karin and many more. I am honored that even my family reads my blog!
I started out by reading one house blog... I found it through The New York Times. That blog is gone (they finished building their "vacation" home) and it mushroomed from there. I found so many wonderful blogs through houseblogs.net -- and I found others through curiosity in the comments left on those house blogs (they are my true passion). I have so many favorites that it sometimes takes me 3 days to read them all! I try to leave a comment when I stop by, but sometimes I don't because so many others have already said what I would have said.

I have learned a ton of cool things about restoring and renovating a home. I've learned how to put all those cool gadgets on my blog from seeing something that I really liked on someone's blog and followed the link to put it on mine. At first, I had to ask how to do things, but I eventually gained the confidence to figure out how to do a lot of it on my own. Most of the time it works, but every now and again I just can't get it to work.

So, I think I just wanted to let all of you know how wonderful you are and how much I admire you. Each one of the blogs has enriched my life.

And, Diana, I am honored that you always manage to read my spot every day.

Thank You, Grandma Faith!

My newest blogger friend, Grandma Faith over at http://grandmafaith.blogspot.com/ has given me a wonderful award. She has a delightful spot and you should pop over there.

Now it is my turn to pass this award on to seven blogs I enjoy (actually, this is the hardest part because there are TONS more than seven that I enjoy):

I'm Getting Spoiled!

My friend Carol from http://charliandme.blogspot.com/ has given me another award! Isn't he cute?!
I am very happy to get such a great award. Comments can be a challenge because sometimes you want to say something and you look and there it is -- someone beat you to those words! Or you have help from gremlins when you leave a comment and don't see that they've helped you until you hit the button.... they've typed things like ktchen instead of kitchen or acme instead of came.... cheeky little things! LOL
Like my friend Carol said, "I feel like we have all become a great group of blogger pen pals in a sense and communication is the key. Since we can't pick up the phone, or stop by to see one another, the next best thing is to leave a comment. I try to leave them as often as I can and I really appreciate all of the comments every one leaves on my blog. Thank you so much. It's been so nice getting to know all of you, and all of you that do leave comments on blogs certainly deserve this award."
The rules are that I can only pick seven. So here goes:

Blogger is starting to get on my nerves.... now I can't put a line between paragraphs!!! ARGGGG!

Memorial Day

Thank you to all who protect. My hat is off to all who have served and who are serving now.

It was raining "cats and dogs" and I was late for physical training. Traffic was backed up at Fort Campbell, Ky., and was moving way too slowly. I was probably going to be late and I was growing more and more impatient.

The pace slowed almost to a standstill as I passed Memorial Grove, the site built to honor the soldiers who died in the Gander airplane crash, the worst redeployment accident in the history of the 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault). Because it was close to Memorial Day, a small American flag had been placed in the ground next to each soldier's memorial plaque. My concern at the time, however, was getting past the bottleneck, getting out of the rain and getting to PT on time.

All of a sudden, infuriatingly, just as the traffic was getting started again, the car in front of me stopped. A soldier, a private of course, jumped out in the pouring rain and ran over toward the grove. I couldn't believe it! This knucklehead was holding up everyone for who knows what kind of prank. Horns were honking. I couldn't wait to see the butt-chewing that he was going to get for making me late. He was getting soaked to the skin. His BDUs were plastered to his frame. I watched-as he ran up to one of the memorial plaques, picked up the small American flag that had fallen to the ground in the wind and the rain, and set it upright again. Then, slowly, he came to attention, saluted, ran back to his car, and drove off.

I'll never forget that incident. That soldier, whose name I will never know, taught me more about duty, honor, and respect than a hundred books or a thousand lectures. That simple salute -- that single act of honoring his fallen brother and his flag --encapsulated all the Army values in one gesture for me. It said, "I will never forget. I will keep the faith. I will finish the mission. I am an American soldier." I thank God for examples like that.

And on this Memorial Day, I will remember all those who paid the ultimate price for my freedom, and one private, soaked to the skin, who honored them.

How You Look at Life

The 92-year-old, petite, well-poised and proud lady, who is fully dressed each morning by eight o'clock, with her hair fashionably coifed and makeup perfectly applied, even though she is legally blind, moved to a nursing home today. Her husband of 70 years recently passed away, making the move necessary.

After many hours of waiting patiently in the lobby of the nursing home, she smiled sweetly when told her room was ready. As she maneuvered her walker to the elevator, I provided a visual description of her tiny room, including the eyelet sheets that had been hung on her window.

"I love it," she stated with the enthusiasm of an eight-year-old having just been presented with a new puppy.

"Mrs. Jones, you haven't seen the room .... just wait."

"That doesn't have anything to do with it, " she replied. "Happiness is something you decide on ahead of time. Whether I like my room or not doesn't depend on how the furniture is arranged... it's how I arrange my mind. I already decided to love it. It's a decision I make every morning when I wake up. I have a choice; I can spend the day in bed recounting the difficulty I have with the parts of my body that no longer work, or get out of bed and be thankful for the ones that do. Each day is a gift, and as long as my eyes open I'll focus on the new day and all the happy memories I've stored away ... just for this time in my life. Old age is like a bank account... you withdraw from what you've put in. So, my advice to you would be to deposit a lot of happiness in the bank account of memories."

Thank you for your part in filling my memory bank, dear family, friends and wonderful bloggers. I am still depositing.

Remember the five simple rules to be happy:

1. Free your heart from hatred.
2. Free your mind from worries.
3. Live simply.
4. Give more.
5. Expect less.

Connectedness

My sister sent me this. Thanks, Sissy!

A mouse looked through the crack in the wall to see the farmer and his wife open a package. What food might this contain?" the mouse wondered - - -he was devastated to discover it was a mousetrap. Retreating to the farmyard, the mouse proclaimed the warning : "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The chicken clucked and scratched, raised her head and said, "Mr.Mouse, I can tell this is a grave concern to you, but it is of no consequence to me. I cannot be bothered by it."

The mouse turned to the pig and told him, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The pig sympathized, but said, "I am so very sorry, Mr.Mouse, but there is nothing I can do about it but pray. Be assured you are in my prayers."

The mouse turned to the cow and said, "There is a mousetrap in the house! There is a mousetrap in the house!"

The cow said, "Wow, Mr. Mouse. I'm sorry for you, but it's no skin off my nose."

So the mouse returned to the house, head down and dejected, to face the farmer's mousetrap . . . alone.

That very night a sound was heard throughout the house -- like the sound of a mousetrap catching its prey. The farmer's wife rushed to see what was caught. In the darkness, she did not see it was a venomous snake whose tail the trap had caught. The snake bit the farmer's wife. The farmer rushed her to the hospital, and she returned home with a fever.

Everyone knows you treat a fever with fresh chicken soup, so the farmer took his hatchet to the farmyard for the soup's main ingredient. But his wife's sickness continued, so friends and neighbors came to sit with her around the clock.

To feed them, the farmer butchered the pig. The farmer's wife did not get well; she died.

So many people came for her funeral, the farmer had the cow slaughtered to provide enough meat for all of them.

The mouse looked upon it all from his crack in the wall with great sadness.

So, the next time you hear someone is facing a problem and think it doesn't concern you, remember ---- when one of us is threatened, we are all at risk. We are all involved in this journey called life. We must keep an eye out for one another and make an extra effort to encourage one another.

REMEMBER. . . . . . EACH OF US IS A VITAL THREAD IN ANOTHER PERSON'S TAPESTRY; OUR LIVES ARE WOVEN TOGETHER FOR A REASON. One of the best things to hold onto in this world is a FRIEND.

Reflection

I like to think of "passing it on" is like the ripples of a small rock thrown into a pond. The rings of kindness just keep spreading out until they reach the shore of the pond.

I nominated some lovely people for an "E" blog award the other day. I enjoy their blogs, they are super people, and I feel like I have known them forever. I didn't expect anything in return. I just wanted them to know that I think they do an excellent job. I am so flattered and honored that quite a few of them awarded it right back to me. I can't begin to tell you how much that means to me.

Like me, those that I nominated had a hard time picking just 10. It is very hard. There are so many great bloggers out there. Whether they be home restorers, story tellers, family sharers... they bring you away from your corner of the world into theirs for a short time. You can leave a comment to let them know that you enjoyed their post, or sometimes be in a position to offer a bit of home improvement advice because you are looking at it from a distance rather than right up close to the project. There are one or two that I read that I can't remember how I found, but they like only a small readership. I didn't nominate those out of respect for that.

There is also one I didn't nominate for the award, but he is very deserving. He is in NY and works very hard for the little Brooklyn Parrots. I'm not sure he reads others' blogs, so I didn't nominate. His spot is here, if you would care to check him out: http://www.brooklynparrots.com/

I'm not sure if I'm making much sense, but I wanted everyone that reads my little spot and all of those that I read every day to know how much they mean to me regardless of an award. You are ALL excellent!

Why I Forward Jokes

I got this from a friend of mine and thought I would post it here.

A man and his dog were walking along a road. The man was enjoying the scenery, when it suddenly occurred to him that he was dead. He remembered dying, and that the dog walking beside him had been dead for years. He wondered where the road was leading them.

After a while, they came to a high, white stone wall along one side of the road. It looked like fine marble. At the top of a long hill, it was broken by a tall arch that glowed in the sunlight. When he was standing before it he saw a magnificent gate in the arch that looked like mother-of-pearl, and the street that led to the gate looked like pure gold.

He and the dog walked toward the gate, and as he got closer, he saw a man at a desk to one side. When he was close enough, he called out, 'Excuse me, where are we?'

'This is Heaven, sir,' the man answered.

'Wow! Would you happen to have some water?' the man asked.

'Of course, sir. Come right in, and I'll have some ice water brought right up.' The man gestured, and the gate began to open.

'Can my friend,' gesturing toward his dog, 'come in, too?' the traveler asked.

'I'm sorry, sir, but we don't accept pets.'

The man thought a moment and then turned back toward the road and continued the way he had been going with his dog. After another long walk, and at the top of another long hill, he came to a dirt road leading through a farm gate that looked as if it had never been closed. There was no fence.

As he approached the gate, he saw a man inside, leaning against a tree and reading a book.

'Excuse me!' he called to the man. 'Do you have any water?'

'Yeah, sure, there's a pump over there, come on in.'

'How about my friend here?' the traveler gestured to the dog.

'There should be a bowl by the pump.'

They went through the gate, and sure enough, there was an old-fashioned hand pump with a bowl beside it. The traveler filled the water bowl and took a long drink himself, then he gave some to the dog. When they were full, he and the dog walked back toward the man who was standing by the tree.

'What do you call this place?' the traveler asked.

'This is Heaven,' he answered.

'Well, that's confusing,' the traveler said. 'The man down the road said that was Heaven, too.'

'Oh, you mean the place with the gold street and pearly gates? Nope. That's hell.'

'Doesn't it make you mad for them to use your name like that?'

'No, we're just happy that they screen out the folks who would leave their best friends behind.'

Soooo... Sometimes, we wonder why friends keep forwarding jokes to us without writing a word. Maybe this will explain. When you are very busy, but still want to keep in touch, guess what you do? You forward jokes. When you have nothing to say, but still want to keep contact, you forward jokes. When you have something to say, but don't know what, and don't know how, you forward jokes. Also to let you know that you are still remembered, you are still important, you are still loved, you are still cared for, guess what you get? A forwarded joke.

So, next time if you get a joke, don't think that you've been sent just another forwarded joke, but that you've been thought of today and your friend on the other end of your computer wanted to send you a smile.

You are all welcome @ my water bowl anytime.

Tea Cups and Teapots

Alas, I have no pictures. My beautiful bone china tea cups have been gone a long time. They were lovely. Most were blue and white, some were rose, and one of them was yellow. They came from Germany (my mother's best friend was from Germany and had give me my first tea cup and saucer), Canada, Wales (my mother's best friend's husband was from Wales), Ohio and Tennessee.

I have a lovely porcelain tea pot. It is shaped like a little log cabin and is a warm honey-brown with a snow-covered pine tree in front and the cabin has a lovely red door. I don't have a digital camera, my computer is old, and I am bad about taking film in to get developed. Sigh.

I drink my tea these days out of a mug with a handsome Black Labrador Retriever on it. A gift from one of my nephews one Christmas. I like orange pekoe, raspberry, cinnamon.... ummm can't you just smell those teas? It is a comfort to sit with a mug of tea and bird watch out the window or just sit and watch my girls (the cats) snooze in a patch of sunshine.

Thanks for stopping by and having a "spot" of tea with me!

A Wonderful Story

Two Horses

There is a field, with two horses in it.

From a distance, each horse looks like any other horse. But if you stop your car, or are walking by, you will notice something quite amazing. Looking into the eyes of one horse will disclose that he is blind. His owner has chosen not to have him put down, but has made a good home for him. This alone is amazing.

If you stand nearby and listen, you will hear the sound of a bell. Looking around for the source of the sound, you will see that it comes from the smaller horse in the field. Attached to the horse's halter is a small bell. It lets the blind friend know where the other horse is, so he can follow.

As you stand and watch these two horses, you'll see that the horse with the bell is always checking on the blind horse, and that the blind horse will listen for the bell and then slowly walk to where the other horse is, trusting that he will not be led astray. When the horse with the bell returns to the shelter of the barn each evening, it stops occasionally and looks back, making sure that the blind friend isn't too far behind to hear the bell.

Like the owners of these two horses, God does not throw us away just because we are not perfect or because we have problems or challenges. He watches over us and even brings others into our lives to help us when we are in need. Sometimes we are the blind horse being guided by the little ringing bell of those who God places in our lives. Other times we are the guide horse, helping others to find their way....

Good friends are like that... you may not always see them, but you know they are always there. Please listen for my bell and I'll listen for yours.

And remember...be kinder than necessary- everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle.

Live simply,
Love generously,
Care deeply,
Speak kindly....
Leave the rest to God

Hoping....

I am hoping that all of my blogger friends that were near or in the path of those horrible storms have come out unscathed. I just could not believe the destruction. I am so sorry for the loss of lives... the loss of homes, churches, schools... and thankful that there weren't more people killed. I have come to care about all of the people whose blogs I read every day. They are very special people.

Time For Tea

My friend Carol wrote about tea the other day. I saw this picture by Penny Parker that I had in my little stash of graphics and thought of her. I often use if for "wallpaper" (or background) on the computer.

Xs and Os to Sissy. I just found out today that my sister reads my blog! Thanks, Mikey!

A Deep Sadness

I cannot fathom the depth of sorrow that a mother suffers in the loss of her son. I have a friend whose son, in his twenties, passed away in his sleep last night. He still lived at home. Needless to say, she is totally devastated. If you would keep her in your prayers, I would greatly appreciate it.

I have known him and his two sisters from the moment they were born. He was a very nice young man. Always took the time to say hello when he saw me. Would take time out of whatever it was he was doing to chat over the fence. He had even cut my lawn a time or two and even cleaned my sidewalk after a snow and wouldn't take anything for it. He had his problems. Most young people today do. But, he was good to his mother and loved his little niece (his youngest sister's little girl) and the newest nephew (his older sister's little boy). He loved classic cars. He liked to sit on the front porch and watch the world go by. He loved dogs. I will miss him.
