Slip Sliding Away

I know I should have posted an update yesterday, but I was just a bit unnerved after we got home.

We were on our way up north. We had decided to go on up even though Mother Nature had dumped about 1 inch of snow on Friday night -- kindly depositing it over a glaze of frozen rain. When we started out, we didn't think it was going to be that bad. But then we got on the express way.
Everything was going OK until we got about 10 miles from home.
There were cars in ditches in one piece, cars that had spun out (or been knocked there by someone else being the reason) and were crumpled in a heap against the braided steel cable fences they had put in place in the summer to keep people from careening onto the other side of the expressway.
We were cautious. The hubs is an excellent driver -- he's been doing it a lot of years :-).
We were almost to Novi -- about 40 miles from home -- when the unforseen happened. We, for no apparent reason other than it was slick as a baby's butt, went into a hard spin. He fought the wheel and got us out of that spin only to immediately go into another one. Six spins (and fingernail prints in my palms) later we were still all in one piece and we made the decision that 222 miles of that was just not worth it. So, we turned around and came home.

It was so scarey that I didn't say a word to him while he was trying to save our behinds... and I usually always have something to say! Of course, after it was all over and we were safely home I did point out that every once in awhile I do know when to keep quiet! LOL

So, I missed seeing my sister and all the family. I'm really sorry for that because I know there won't be too many more family Christmas parties. But I do know that when the weather presents us with a nicer, ice-free day, we are going to head up "just because" and at least see Sissy.
(I have absolutely no idea why it will put some returns in my post and not others! Sorry about it looking like a 2 year old did it.)

Happy Whatever!

I got this from my friend Sandi. I just had to post it. It will make you laugh hard!

RE: Gala Christmas Party

I'm happy to inform you that the company Christmas Party will take place on December 23rd, starting at noon in the private function room at the Grill House. There will be a cash bar and plenty of drinks! We'll have a small band playing traditional carols.... feel free to sing along. And don't be surprised if our CEO shows up dressed as Santa Claus!

A Christmas tree will be lit at 1:00 PM. Exchanges of gifts among employees can be done at that time; however, no gift should be over $10.00 to make the giving of gifts easy for everyone's pockets. This gathering is only for employees! Our CEO will make a special announcement at that time! Merry Christmas to you and your family,

Patty

RE: Gala Holiday Party

In no way was yesterday's memo intended to exclude our Jewish employees. We recognize that Hanukkah is an important holiday, which often coincides with Christmas, though unfortunately not this year. However, from now on, we're calling it our " Holiday Party." The same policy applies to any other employees who are not Christians and to those still celebrating Reconciliation Day. There will be no Christmas tree and no Christmas carols will be sung.

We will have other types of music for your enjoyment. Happy now? Happy Holidays to you and your family,

Patty

RE: Holiday Party

Regarding the note I received from a member of Alcoholics Anonymous requesting a non-drinking table, you didn't sign your name. I'm happy to accommodate this request, but if I put a sign on a table that reads, "AA Only," you wouldn't be anonymous anymore. How am I supposed to handle this? Somebody?

And sorry, but forget about the gift exchange, no gifts are allowed since the union members feel that $10.00 is too much money and the executives believe $10.00 is a little chintzy.

REMEMBER: NO GIFTS EXCHANGE WILL BE ALLOWED.

RE: Generic Holiday Party

What a diverse group we are! I had no idea that December 20th begins the Muslim holy month of Ramadan, which forbids eating and drinking during daylight hours. There goes the party! Seriously, we can appreciate how a luncheon at this time of year does not accommodate our Muslim employees' beliefs. Perhaps the Grill House can hold off on serving your meal until the end of the party or else package everything for you to take it home in little foil doggy baggy. Will that work? Meanwhile, I've arranged for members of Weight Watchers to sit farthest from the dessert buffet, and pregnant women will get the table closest to the restrooms.

Gays are allowed to sit with each other. Lesbians do not have to sit with Gay men, each group will have their own table.

Yes, there will be flower arrangement for the Gay men's table.

To the person asking permission to cross dress, the Grill House asks that no cross-dressing be allowed, apparently because of concerns about confusion in the restrooms. Sorry.

We will have booster seats for short people.

Low-fat food will be available for those on a diet.

I am sorry to report that we cannot control the amount of salt used in the food. The Grill House suggests that people with high blood pressure taste a bite first.

There will be fresh "low sugar" fruits as dessert for diabetics, but the restaurant cannot supply "no sugar" desserts. Sorry! Did I miss anything?!?!?

RE: The F*%^ing Holiday Party

I've had it with you vegetarian pricks!!! We're going to keep this party at the Grill House whether you like it or not, so you can sit quietly at the table furthest from the "grill of death," as you so quaintly put it, and you'll get your f*%^ing salad bar, including organic tomatoes. But you know, tomatoes have feelings, too. They scream when you slice them. I've heard them scream. I'm hearing them scream right NOW! The rest of you f*%^ing wierdos can kiss my *ss. I hope you all have a rotten holiday!

Drive drunk and die, The B*tch from H*ll!!!

RE: Patty Lewis and Holiday Party

I'm sure I speak for all of us in wishing Patty Lewis a speedy recovery from her recent nervous breakdown and I'll continue to forward your cards to her at the asylum.

In the meantime, management has decided to cancel our Holiday Party and give everyone the afternoon of the 23rd off with full pay.

Happy Whatever!

Alberta... Clipper calling

It is COLD! I'm not ready for this. Make it go away. Alberta, your Clipper is calling you to come and get it!

Hang on to your hat!

Can we say windy? Batten down the hatches! And it's COLD!!!

Yuck

(This picture, by the way, was taken by Ken Dow in Corinna, Maine several years ago.)

According to the weather people, it's going to get ugly out there. Why is that? Can't we send it to Alberta for once instead of them sending that crap to us?

Tiny Cabin

THE TINY CABIN
A social worker from a big City in Massachusetts recently transferred to the Mountains of North Carolina and Georgia and was on the first tour of her new territory when she came upon the tiniest cabin she had ever seen in her life.
Intrigued, she went up and knocked on the door.
"Anybody home?" she asked.
"Yep," came a kid's voice through the door.
"Is your father there?" asked the social worker.
"Pa? Nope, he left afore Ma came in," said the kid.
"Well, is your mother there?" persisted the social worker.
"Ma? Nope, she left just afore I got here," said the kid.
"But," protested the social worker, "are you never together as a family?"
"Sure, but not here," said the kid through the door. "This is the outhouse!"
(I just couldn't resist! Thanks, Frank!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Some of you have probably seen this but I thought it would be good to send it again this year. Take care. Hope you are looking forward to a “Wonderful Christmas Season.”

*Twas the Month Before Christmas*
*When all through our land,*
*Not a Christian was praying*
*Nor taking a stand.*
*See the PC Police had taken away,*
*The reason for Christmas - no one could say.*
*The children were told by their schools not to sing,*
*About Shepherds and Wise Men and Angels and things.*
*It might hurt people's feelings, the teachers would say*
* December 25th is just a ' Holiday '.*
*Yet the shoppers were ready with cash, checks and credit*
*Pushing folks down to the floor just to get it!*
*CDs from Madonna, an X BOX, an I-pod*
*Something was changing, something quite odd!*
*Retailers promoted Ramadan and Kwanzaa*
*In hopes to sell books by Franken & Fonda.*
*As Targets were hanging their trees upside down*
* At Lowe's the word Christmas - was no where to be found.*
*At K-Mart and Staples and Penny's and Sears*
*You won't hear the word Christmas; it won't touch your ears.*
*Inclusive, sensitive, Di-ver-si-ty*
*Are words that were used to intimidate me.*
*Now Pelosi, Now Reed, Now Sharpton, Wolf Blitzen*
*On Boxer, On Rangel, On Kerry, On Clinton!*
*And at the top of the Senate, there arose such a clatter*
*To eliminate Jesus, in all public matter.*
*And we spoke not a word, as they took away our faith*
*Forbidden to speak of salvation and grace*
*The true Gift of Christmas was exchanged and discarded*
*The reason for the season, stopped before it started.*
*So as you celebrate 'Winter Break' under your 'Dream Tree'*
*Sipping your Starbucks, listen to me.*
*Choose your words carefully, choose what you say*
*Shout MERRY CHRISTMAS , not Happy Holiday !*

Please, all Christians join together and wish everyone you meet during the holidays a MERRY CHRISTMAS! Christ is The Reason for the Christ-mas Season!

It was a rough week!

I am hoping that everyone had a great Thanksgiving. I had computer problems and had to have it serviced. Just got it back last night and now I'm wading through a gazillion emails. Sigh. Sure missed being able to post -- it's been so long I'd almost forgotten how! LOL!
