Bloggers

Another wonderful place I love to drop in on and visit is in MO. This young lady works hard and then comes home and tackles "the shingles" and house painting. She has a cat that loves to go through her screens (sometimes right after she replaces them). Her home has tons of history.

Stop by and give her a visit.

BobLo - Moonlight Cruise

This is one of my favorite things from childhood and young adulthood. If you were a kid, there was nothing like BobLo Island -- rides and SO much fun. If you were young and in love, there was absolutely NOTHING like a moonlight cruise on the BobLo boat. Sigh.

Lazy Days of Summer

I have been remiss. I have been lax. I have not been visiting my favorite blogs this summer. I have been puttering in the flower garden. I have been watching over the lovely miniature Hostas my friend Jan sent me. One of them bloomed a lovely purple bloom. I have been feeding the birds -- and, of course, the squirrels - they invite themselves!

I am hoping you went to see Indrani...

Here is another of my favorites. You will see wonderful recipes, lovely pictures of Charli the lady Schnauzer. There's Blue Monday and Dogs on Thursday and Books on Thursday. There's tea and family. Stop by. You will enjoy her as much as I do (she is a very good friend).

Animal Hoarder

I don't know how many of you are from Michigan that read my spot, but there is a news story that is in it second day here. A 56 year old man has been removed from his Dearborn home and is being mentally evaluated. He had approximately 262 dogs in his home -- 151 of them were dead and 111 of them were alive. Some of them were pregnant, some of them were deformed, some of them had tumors (some of which were in their mouths)... there were Chihuahas and Jack Russell Terriers. Some of them had been locked in rooms for at least two years. There were also a couple of cats. I don't think any of them had ever been outside. They found dead dogs in closets, in walls, in old TV cabinets and in freezers. To say the home was full of filth would be an understatement. They had to go in with hazmat suits and gas masks. To top it off, the utility company cut the power off to the house because they said it was a fire hazard and the ones cleaning all the things out of the house are in there now with no electricity -- and there are 75 dogs in freezers.... thawing.

This is such a tragedy. How awful that another animal hoarder has caused countless animals to pay the price of the hoarder's stupidity.

It will be about two weeks before they can fully evaluate all of the animals and decide how many can be put up for adoption. I am hopeful that most of the 111 can be adopted.

Back to Work

Well, yesterday the honeymoon was over -- vacation was done and today it was back to work. Sigh.

Seems the older I get the more I enjoy vacation. Use to be I hated to go on vacation. It messed up my whole routine. Now, not so much. Makes me turn my thoughts to retirement. I could actually retire in two years... or I could wait for 5 years.... but I think the two years has my name written on it.

No driving with all the crazies (you'd be surprised how many crazy people there are on the road at 5:30 in the morning -- not to mention 5:00 in the afternoon). No paying for parking. No paying City of Detroit taxes (non-resident). Jammies could become my uniform.

Of course, I would miss the people I work with. And I love my job -- yep, I love what I do.

I'm going to give it some serious thought, though.

How the Internet began.

The True Origin of the Internet

In ancient Israel, it came to pass that a trader by the name of Abraham Com did take unto himself a young wife by the name of Dot.

And Dot Com was a comely woman, broad of shoulder and long of leg. Indeed, she had been called 'Amazon Dot Com.'

And she said unto Abraham, her husband, "Why doth thou travel far from town to town with thy goods when thou can trade without ever leaving thy tent?"

And Abraham did look at her as though she were several saddle bags short of a camel load, but simply said, "How, dear?"And Dot replied, "I will place drums in all the towns and drums in between to send messages saying what you have for sale and they will reply telling you which hath the best price. And the sale can be made on the drums and delivery made by Uriah's Pony Stable (UPS)."

Abraham thought long and decided he would let Dot have her way with the drums. And the drums rang out and were an immediate success. Abraham sold all the goods he had at the top price, without ever moving from his tent.

But this success did arouse envy. A man named Maccabia did secrete himself inside Abraham's drum and was accused of insider trading. And the young man did take to Dot Com's trading as doth the greedy horsefly take to camel dung. They were called Nomadic Ecclesiastical Rich Dominican Siderites, or NERDS for short.

And lo, the land was so feverish with joy at the new riches and the deafening sound of drums that no one noticed that the real riches were going to the drum maker, one Brother William of Gates, who bought up every drum company in the land. And indeed did insist on making drums that would work only with Brother Gates' drumheads and drumsticks.

And Dot did say, "Oh, Abraham, what we have started is being taken over by others."

And as Abraham looked out over the Bay of Ezekiel, or as it came to be known "eBay" he said, "We need a name that reflects what we are."

And Dot replied, "Young Ambitious Hebrew Owner Operators."

"YAHOO," said Abraham.

And that is how it all began. It wasn't Al Gore after all.

How Money Really Spins

It is the month of August, on the shores of the Black Sea. It is raining, and the little town looks totally deserted. It is a tough time, everybody is in debt, and everybody lives on credit.
Suddenly, a rich tourist comes to town. He enters the only hotel, lays a 100 Euro note on the reception counter, and goes to inspect the rooms upstairs in order to pick one.

The hotel proprietor takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the butcher.

The butcher takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the pig grower.

The pig grower takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the supplier of his feed and fuel.

The supplier of feed and fuel takes the 100 Euro note and runs to pay his debt to the town's prostitute who, gave her "services"on credit.

The hooker runs to the hotel, and pays off her debt with the 100 Euro note to the hotel proprietor to pay for the rooms she rented when she brought her clients there.

The hotel proprietor then lays the 100 Euro note back on the counter so that the rich tourist will not suspect anything.

At that moment, the rich tourist comes down after inspecting the rooms and takes his 100 Euro note, saying he did not like any of the rooms, and leaves town.

No one earned anything. However, the whole town is now without debt, and looks to the future with a lot of optimism….

And that, ladies and gentlemen, is how the governments of the world are doing business today.

(This explains it pretty cleary, don't you think?!)

The Folded Napkin

Why Did Jesus Fold the Napkin?

This is one I can honestly say I have never seen circulating in the emails so; I'll start it, if it touches you and you want to forward it.

Why did Jesus fold the linen burial cloth after His resurrection? I never noticed this....

The Gospel of John (20:7) tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes.

The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin.

Early Sunday morning, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene came to the tomb and found that the stone had been rolled away from the entrance.

She ran and found Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one whom Jesus loved. She said, 'They have taken the Lord's body out of the tomb, and I don't know where they have put him!'

Peter and the other disciple ran to the tomb to see. The other disciple outran Peter and got there first. He stooped and looked in and saw the linen cloth lying there, but he didn't go in.

Then Simon Peter arrived and went inside. He also noticed the linen wrappings lying there, while the cloth that had covered Jesus' head was folded up and lying to the side.

Was that important? Absolutely!

Is it really significant? Yes!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do with the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition.

When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it.

The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished.

Now if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table.

The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, 'I'm done'.

But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it beside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because..........

The folded napkin meant, 'I'm coming back!'

Thanks to my sister-in-law Carol!
