I don't know how many of you are from Michigan that read my spot, but there is a news story that is in it second day here. A 56 year old man has been removed from his Dearborn home and is being mentally evaluated. He had approximately 262 dogs in his home -- 151 of them were dead and 111 of them were alive. Some of them were pregnant, some of them were deformed, some of them had tumors (some of which were in their mouths)... there were Chihuahas and Jack Russell Terriers. Some of them had been locked in rooms for at least two years. There were also a couple of cats. I don't think any of them had ever been outside. They found dead dogs in closets, in walls, in old TV cabinets and in freezers. To say the home was full of filth would be an understatement. They had to go in with hazmat suits and gas masks. To top it off, the utility company cut the power off to the house because they said it was a fire hazard and the ones cleaning all the things out of the house are in there now with no electricity -- and there are 75 dogs in freezers.... thawing.
This is such a tragedy. How awful that another animal hoarder has caused countless animals to pay the price of the hoarder's stupidity.
It will be about two weeks before they can fully evaluate all of the animals and decide how many can be put up for adoption. I am hopeful that most of the 111 can be adopted.
What this thing is still active?
