Snow

I'm thinking we have managed to dodge the bullet this winter pretty well, but I'm also thinking that the honeymoon is over. We are supposed to get about 10" of snow starting tomorrow and through Wednesday. Sigh. Oh. Did I mention the 30 - 40 mph winds that will swing through on Wednesday?

Yuck

(This picture, by the way, was taken by Ken Dow in Corinna, Maine several years ago.)

According to the weather people, it's going to get ugly out there. Why is that? Can't we send it to Alberta for once instead of them sending that crap to us?

Casualty

Sigh. On the way out the door yesterday morning I thought, "Gosh, this spot looks funny." And then I figured out why. One of my 41 year old cedar trees was lying across the front. Pulled right out of the ground. There was just one snow storm too many for the poor thing. That was some heavy-*ss snow. Three inches of the stuff. It felt like I was moving cement when I cleaned the car off.

I was going to see about having it put back in the ground. So much for that thought. The hubs called me at work.

Hubs: "I got almost all of it cut up."

Me: "Got what almost cut up."

Hubs: "The cedar tree."

Me: "I was thinking about having it put back in the ground."

Hubs: "It's a little too late for that."

Apparently. Sigh. The birds were very unhappy when I came home. They were chattering at me from the Oak tree in the front yard. What can you do?

I miss it already. I wonder if I make him put what's left of it in the ground if it would come back. He hasn't hacked the roots off of it yet. There's still hope! Of course, it will be about 2 feet tall instead of being taller than the house. And it won't have any green stuff on it. Really big sigh.

On the bright side, he was bowling last night, so he couldn't hack at it any more.

New Michigan Tornado Policy

NEW MICHIGAN TORNADO POLICY...

In the case of tornadoes sweeping through Michigan we are asking all Michiganders to take shelter at Ford Field located at the heart of Detroit City.

We are fairly certain a touchdown will not occur there.

(Thanks, Carol!)

It's Raining

We've had quite a dry spell through July and August. Poor grass went dormant and the flowers, well, let's just say they were happy with garden hose water.

It started raining yesterday. I'm happy. My grass is happy, and I'm expecting my flowers to start jumping out of their pots and beds! The bird baths are full. The birds are happy because now there's lunch all the time with the earthworms trying not to drown....

But, I honestly didn't think we would make up for all that lack of rain in just three days. Yep. It's supposed to rain all day tomorrow (and Monday), too. Now there is a flood watch.

But, honest, I'm really not complaining!

My windows are open!

Today is such a lovely day. The air smells so good. I can hear Harleys rumbling on the highway (it's a good sound to me) and the sound of classic cars as they are headed off to this show or that show (one of my favorite things to do -- schmooze through classic car shows). The birds are all in a twitter (I think they're courting) and the squirrel is filling his little face with the corn we've put out for him (so he'll leave the bird seed alone - HA, fat chance). We (well, actually hubby) raked up some of the leaves and some of the straw that I put down in the fall to keep the plants all snug and warm through the winter. It's suppose to rain (you can't imagine the number of people I heard complain about THAT today), but that's OK because you have to have rain in April for May flowers. My daffodils are blooming - HURRAY!!! All in all, I am happier than a clam! LOL

Sigh....

It is snowing on the brand new leaves on my snowball bush.

Knock, Knock

OK. The robins are knocking on my windows.... "Hello.... I AM in Michigan, aren't I? I haven't veered off course and am actually in Alaska, am I?"

I just stare past them at the snow that is falling.... falling hard and fast....

One robin pulls out his little blackberry (or whatever it is called).

"Look. Right here. See. I CHECKED my schedule. I made sure it said spring had officially arrived in Michigan. I am sure of it. It's right on the calendar here."

I don't know what to say. I am going to have to close the blinds and hide.

Geese

Well, I must say, it is an absolutely beautiful day. The sun is shining brightly, I saw two geese coming back (surely they know something we don't), and it is 30º! Wahoo!!

Not only that, Sammy has finally updated his blog! What more could you ask for?! LOL

Springtime?

I just KNEW I shouldn't have put anything on the blog about spring. Did someone say snow? Snow like in 10"? And, at this moment, we aren't done yet.... about 2" more coming. Sigh. Did someone say Arizona? :-)

Sunshine

It is such a beautiful day today. Even if it is only 18º, the sun is shining, the birds are all a-twitter, and the squirrels are sunning themselves in what is left of the big box elder tree in the backyard.

Brrrrrrr!!!

Can we say cold? It's 3º here with a -25º wind chill. And tomorrow is Monday and I can't hide under the covers from the cold here with the girls and go to work too. Sigh. I need June...

Snow

As I am sitting here reading through my emails, I happened to look up. Outside my window a beautiful, big-flaked, gentle snow is falling. It is so pretty! It kind of puts a "muffler" on the noise of everyday life.

and....

If you consider it a sport to gather your food by drilling through 18 inches of ice and sitting there all day hoping that the food will swim by, you might live in Michigan.

Brrrrrrrrr

Man! Is it cold or what?! It is 13º with a -1º windchill..... and it's going to get COLDER! I am SO not into this.

Fog

I love fog (when I don't have to drive or walk in it). It's like a heavy snow -- it muffles sounds AND it slows down the flights (I live by Metro Airport). The squirrels must be happy - they've been running across the top of the house all morning!
