God's Problem Now

The graveside service just barely finished, when there was massive clap of thunder, followed by a tremendous bolt of lightning, accompanied by even more thunder rumbling in the distance.

The little old man looked at the pastor and calmly said, 'Well, she's there.'

I've Got Your Back

I am a small and precious child, my dad's been sent to fight.
The only place I'll see his face, is in my dreams at night.
He will be gone too many days for my young mind to keep track.
I may be sad, but I am proud. My daddy's got your back.

I am a caring mother. My son has gone to war.
My mind is filled with worries that I have never known before.
Everyday I try to keep my thoughts from turning black.
I may be scared, but I am proud. My son has got your back.

I am a strong and loving wife, with a husband soon to go.
There are times I'm terrified in a way most never know.
I bite my lip, and force a smile as I watch my husband pack.
My heart may break, but I am proud. My husband's got your back.

I am a Soldier. Serving Proudly, standing tall.
I fight for freedom, yours and mine by answering this call.
I do my job while knowing, the thanks it sometimes lacks.
Say a prayer that I'll come home. It's me who's got your back.

Thanks, Michele!

The Jigsaw Puzzle

When God opened the box of my life
It was jumbled pieces all around
Looked long and hard at the contents
And smiled at what he found!

Painstakingly he took few pieces
Sought to find its place
All the time I sighed and squirmed
Watched the smile still on his face!

I tried so hard to urge him
Fit each piece; impatiently in vain
So I could see the finished work
He smiled at me again!

Then let me be for periods long
Turned away, left me alone
I pleaded with him to no avail
The silence had to be borne!

God was perfecting me I knew
And perhaps I needed to wait
I learnt although he was never early
My God was never late!

As I learnt the virtue of patience
To place few pieces he d return
The puzzle would one day take form
A lesson I struggled to learn!

But so few pieces he placed
My patience he sorely tried
Nowhere as much as I wanted
How with him could I abide?

So trusting in my intelligence
Rather than wait so long
I tried fitting them on my own
Alas they were always wrong!

I'd struggle to place a piece
Assuming I had it all
Worn from trying so hard
At last I'd let it fall!

Each time I tried it on my own
He'd watch me struggle in vain
With nothing but a smile, then
Lovingly return, fit a piece again!

At last with every piece in place
I sit with awe at his feet
Amazed at the beautiful work
My life over, the puzzle complete!

Three Things to Ponder

1. Cows
2. The Constitution
3. The Ten Commandments

C O W S
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country.

Maybe we should give each of them a cow.

T H E C O N S T I T U T I O N

They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq. Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years,. and we're not using it anymore.

T H E 1 0 C O M M A N D M E N T S

The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse is this: You cannot post 'Thou Shalt Not Steal,' 'Thou Shalt Not Commit Adultery,' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians. It creates a hostile work environment.

In God we trust!

Thanks, Wanda!

Tagged!

I've been tagged..........

My friend Carol at http://charliandme.blogspot.com/ has invited me to do the following tag....

Here are the rules:

1. Link to the person who "tagged" you.
2. Post the rules on your blog.
3. Write six random things about yourself.
4. Tag six people at the end of your post.
5. Let each person know that they have been tagged by leaving a comment on their blog.
6. Let the tagger know your entry is up.

Now let me see.... six random things.... gosh this is tough... I don't like to talk that much about myself....

1. Twenty years ago I went back to school (business college) after being out of school for 20 years and managed to graduate with a 3.88 grade average.

2. After I graduated from business college I found the job of my dreams... not only did I find a job I love, I get paid to do it!

3. I am very close to my sister that lives up north. I love her more than life itself.

4. I listen to Christmas music all year long, but I love all kinds of music.

5. I absolutely LOVE house blogs!

6. I have 4 great-grandchildren.

Well, there you have it. How did I do?

I know I'm supposed to "tag" 6 people. Now let's see... who can I tag? If I have tagged you, and you don't want to be tagged, I will take absolutely NO offense.

Another Step Back in Time...

I have no idea who put this together, but, it's wonderful! And Oh So True...

Long ago and far away, in a land that time forgot,
Before the days of Dylan, or the dawn of Camelot.
There lived a race of innocents, and they were you and me,
For Ike was in the White House in that land where we were born,
Where navels were for oranges, and Peyton Place was porn.
We learned to gut a muffler, we washed our hair at dawn,
We spread our crinolines to dry in circles on the lawn.
We longed for love and romance, and waited for our Prince,
And Eddie Fisher married Liz, and no one's seen him since.
We danced to 'Little Darlin,' and sang to 'Stagger Lee'
And cried for Buddy Holly in the Land That Made Me, Me.
Only girls wore earrings then, and 3 was one too many,
And only boys wore flat-top cuts, except for Jean McKinney.
We fell for Frankie Avalon, Annette was oh, so nice,
And when they made a movie, they never made it twice.
We didn't have a Star Trek Five, or Psycho Two and Three,
Or Rocky-Rambo Twenty in the Land That Made Me, Me.
Miss Kitty had a heart of gold, and Chester had a limp,
And Reagan was a Democrat whose co-star was a chimp.
We had a Mr. Wizard, but not a Mr. T ,
And Oprah couldn't talk, yet, in the Land That Made Me, Me.
We had our share of heroes, we never thought they'd go,
At least not Bobby Darin, or Marilyn Monroe.
For youth was still eternal, and life was yet to be,
And Elvis was forever in the Land That Made Me, Me.
We'd never seen the rock band that was Grateful to be Dead,
And Airplanes weren't named Jefferson, and Zeppelins were not Led.
And Beatles lived in gardens then, and Monkees lived in trees,
Madonna was a virgin in the Land That Made Me, Me.
We'd never heard of microwaves, or telephones in cars,
And babies might be bottle-fed, but they weren't grown in jars.
We hadn't seen enough of jets to talk about the lag,
And microchips were what was left at the bottom of the bag.
And Hardware was a box of nails, and bytes came from a flea,
And rocket ships were fiction in the Land That Made Me, Me.
Buicks came with portholes, and side shows came with freaks,
And bathing suits came big enough to cover both your cheeks.
And Coke came just in bottles, and skirts below the knee,
And Castro came to power near the Land That Made Me, Me.
We had no Crest with Fluoride, we had no Hill Street Blues,
We had no patterned pantyhose or Lipton herbal tea
Or prime-time ads for condoms in the Land That Made Me, Me.
There were no golden arches, no Perrier to chill,
And fish were not called Wanda, and cats were not called Bill.
And middle-aged was 35 and old was forty-three,
And ancient were our parents in the Land That Made Me, Me.
But all things have a season, or so we've heard them say,
And now instead of Maybelline we swear by Retin-A.
They send us invitations to join AARP,
We've come a long way, baby, from the Land That Made Me, Me.
So now we face a brave new world in slightly larger jeans,
And wonder why they're using smaller print in magazines.
And we tell our children's children of the way it used to be,
Long ago and far away in the Land That Made Me.... Me.
Thanks, Gina!

Memories

For those of you who remember one of the delights of Detroit...
This is my favorite picture of a wonderful thing that once was. A Bob-Lo boat. There was the Columia and the Ste. Claire.
I rode them many times. There were trips to Bob-Lo Island -- a place that had rides, food, and a picnic area (a small amusement park) or (for the adults) you could ride up the river and back on a moonlight cruise that had a band you could dance to.
This picture is a depiction of a moonlight cruise.

You Make Me Smile

Isn't this the sweetest award you have ever seen? Carol at http://charliandme.blogspot.com/ is passing out this adorable award to everyone on her blog roll as well as anyone who stops by to read her blog. Thank you so much Carol!....

Since Carol was kind enough to pass this award on to me, and suggest that I do the same, I would like to pass this lovely little award on to everyone who stops by to read my blog as well as those already on my favorite list. Like Carol, I feel there isn't a blog I have visited that hasn't made me smile so please feel free to pick up this little cutie for yourself.......
Now there is one tiny little catch..... There is a tag that goes along with the award. The tag is this. Name Five Songs That You Are Embarrassed To Sing......
Well, I've been singing since I was about 4 years old. I have sang all kinds of songs, and I don't think there IS anything that I'm embarrassed to sing! What a quandary... Of course, now that I'm "older" I don't quite sound like I used to in my younger days, so I don't sing in front of too many people anymore!

Out of Commission

Hi to all my friends and family. I will be out of commission for a couple of days. The back went out again. I will pre-schedule one for tomorrow!

Have a great day!!!

Edited: I am feeling somewhat better, so I have stopped in to check my blog! I must admit, it is very hard to stay away!

WALKING AND BEER:

A recent study found the average American walks about 900 miles per year.

Another study found Americans drink, on average, 22 gallons of beer a year.

That means, on average, Americans get about 41 miles to the gallon.

Kind of makes you proud to be an American.

Old Love

A husband in his back yard is trying to fly a kite. He throws the kite up in the air, the wind catches it for a few seconds, then it comes crashing backdown to earth. He tries this a few more times with no success.

All the while, his wife is watching from the kitchen window, muttering to herself how men need to be told how to do everything. She opens the window and yells to her husband, 'You need a piece of tail.'
The man turns with a confused look on his face and says, 'Make up your mind. Last night, you told me to go fly a kite!'

Ruth

This is one of my favorites. My sister sent this to me. It's been awhile since I've seen it, and I want to share. Thank you, Sissy!

Ruth went to her mail box and there was only one letter.

She picked it up and looked at it before opening, but then she looked at the envelope again.

There was no stamp, no postmark, only her name and address.

She read the letter:

Dear Ruth:

I`m going to be in your neighborhood Saturday afternoon and I'd like to stop by for a visit.

Love Always,

Jesus

Her hands were shaking as she placed the letter on the table. 'Why would the Lord want to visit me? I'm nobody special. I don't have anything to offer.'

With that thought, Ruth remembered her empty kitchen cabinets.

'Oh my goodness, I really don't have anything to offer. I'll have to run down to the store and buy something for dinner.'

She reached for her purse and counted out its contents. Five dollars and forty cents. 'Well, I can get some bread and cold cuts, at least.' She threw on her coat and hurried out the door.

A loaf of French bread, a half-pound of sliced turkey, and a carton of milk...leaving Ruth with grand total twelve cents to last her until Monday. Nonetheless, she felt good as she headed home, her meager offerings tucked under her arm.

'Hey lady, can you help us, lady?'

Ruth had been so absorbed in her dinner plans, she hadn't even noticed two figures huddled in the alleyway. A man and a woman, both of them dressed in little more than rags.

'Look lady, I ain't got a job, you know, and my wife and I have been living out here on the street, and, well, now it's getting cold and we're getting kinda hungry and, well, if you could help us. Lady, we'd really appreciate it.'

Ruth looked at them both.

They were dirty, they smelled bad and frankly, she was certain that they could get some kind of work if they really wanted to.

'Sir, I'd like to help you, but I'm a poor woman myself. All I have is a few cold cuts and some bread, and I'm having an important guest for dinner tonight and I was planning on serving that to Him.'

'Yeah, well, okay lady, I understand. Thanks anyway.'

The man put his arm around the woman's shoulders, turned and headed back into the alley.

As she watched them leave, Ruth felt a familiar twinge in her heart.

'Sir, wait!'

The couple stopped and turned as she ran down the alley after them.

'Look, why don't you take this food. I'll figure out something else to serve my guest.'

She handed the man her grocery bag.

'Thank you lady. Thank you very much!'

'Yes, thank you!' It was the man's wife, and Ruth could see now that she was shivering.

'You know, I've got another coat at home. Here, why don't you take this one.' Ruth unbuttoned her jacket and slipped it over the woman's shoulders.

Then smiling, she turned and walked back to the street...without her coat and with nothing to serve her guest.

'Thank you lady! Thank you very much!'

Ruth was chilled by the time she reached her front door, and worried too.

The Lord was coming to visit and she didn't have anything to offer Him.

She fumbled through her purse for the door key. But as she did, she noticed another envelope in her mailbox.

'That's odd. The mailman doesn't usually come twice in one day.'

Dear Ruth:

It was so good to see you again. Thank you for the lovely meal. And thank you, too, for the beautiful coat.

Love Always,

Jesus

The air was still cold, but even without her coat, Ruth no longer noticed.

Good things will happen to everyone that touches this story.

The Price of Gas

A thief in Paris planned to steal some paintings from the Louvre.

After careful planning, he got past security, stole the paintings, and made it safely to his van. However, he was captured only two blocks away when his van ran out of gas.

When asked how he could mastermind such a crime and then make such an obvious error, he replied, 'Monsieur, that is the reason I stole the paintings.

'I had no Monet

to buy Degas

to make the Van Gogh.'

See if you have De Gaulle to send this on to someone else.
I sent it to you because I figured I had nothing Toulouse.

(Thanks, Jan!)

Golf Lessons

A foursome of guys is waiting at the men's tee, while another foursome of women is hitting from the ladies' tees.

The ladies are taking their time. When the final lady is ready to hit her ball, she hacks it ten feet.
She goes over and whiffs it completely. Then she hacks it another ten feet, and finally hacks it another five feet.

She looks up at the patiently waiting men and says apologetically, 'I guess all those f--king lessons I took over the winter didn't help.

One of the men immediately responds, 'Well, there you have it... you should have taken golf lessons instead!'

He never even had a chance to duck.

(Another gem from Frank!)
