Farewell, Sissy.

11/13/1927 - 05/13/2011

Just a length’ning of the shadows,

Just a short’ning of the breath,

Just a graying of the features ---

Is this dying? Is it death?

Just a rest for weary footsteps,

Just a folding of tired hands,

Just a glimpse across the river

Where the Holy City stands.

Just a closing of the eyelids,

Just a hush, why mourn and weep?

So it is the Heavenly Father

Giveth his beloved sleep.

Death? As, yes, we call it dying,

When six feet of earth is thrust

O’er the temple of our loved ones,

And dust returns to dust.

But when all mists have vanished,

And we meet on yon’ bright shore,

We shall knew ‘twas the entrance

Unto life evermore.

Prayers for my sister -- she is having laser eye surgery today. She's the lovely lady with the silver hair!

Jesus is Watching You

My sister sent me this!

A burglar broke into a house one night. He shone his flashlight around, looking for valuables; and when he picked up a CD player to place in his sack, a strange, disembodied voice echoed from the dark saying, 'Jesus is watching you.'

He nearly jumped out of his skin, clicked his flashlight off, and froze.

When he heard nothing more after a bit, he shook his head, promised himself a vacation after the next big score, then clicked the light on and began searching for more valuables.

Just as he pulled the stereo out so he could disconnect the wires, clear as a bell he heard, 'Jesus is watching you.' Freaked out, he shone his light around frantically, looking for the source of the voice.

Finally, in the corner of the room, his flashlight beam came to rest on a parrot. 'Did you say that?' he hissed at the parrot.

'Yep,' the parrot confessed, then squawked, 'I'm just trying to warn you.'

The burglar relaxed. 'Warn me, huh? Who in the world are you?'

'Moses,' replied the bird.

'Moses?' the burglar laughed. 'What kind of people would name a bird Moses?'

'The kind of people that would name a Rottweiler Jesus.'

Family

For those who have been wanting a picture -- here it is. This is from around 2005. The wonderful people sitting are my sister Ruby (Sissy to me) and my brother-in-law Johnny. The two gentlemen standing are Bob (on the left) and Mike (on the right) who are my nephews. The old lady in the middle is me (I used to be skinny until I got older). My sister is 22 years older than I. My brother-in-law passed away in 2006 just after their 56th wedding anniversary. Throughout his life he would forget and introduce me to people as his daughter. I loved it! My nephews are more like my brothers because I was born first, then Mike (a year and 10 months later) and then Bob (two years and two months after Mike). We grew up together. We are very close to this day.
