Dumb as a box of Rocks A VERY GOOD EXAMPLE OF THE KIND OF REPRESENTATION WE HAVE IN CONGRESS, TRUE STORY:
A noted psychiatrist was a guest speaker at an academic function where Nancy Pelosi happened to appear. Ms Pelosi took the opportunity to schmooze the good doctor a bit and asked him a question with which he was most at ease.
'Would you mind telling me, Doctor,' she asked, 'how you detect a mental deficiency in somebody who appears completely normal?'
'Nothing is easier,' he replied. 'You ask a simple question which anyone should answer with no trouble. If the person hesitates, that puts you on the track.'
'What sort of question?' asked Pelosi.
Well, you might ask, 'Captain Cook made three trips around the world and died during one of them. Which one?''
Pelosi thought a moment, and then said with a nervous laugh, 'You wouldn't happen to have another example would you? I must confess I don't know much about history.'
What this thing is still active?

And it doesn't surprise me a bit that she had no answer...even my cats know it would be the third one!!! ROTFL!!!

Of course, you also get under-confident idiots like me who'd falter a bit because they were sure it was a trick question.
So much for those who hesitate; wonder what the good doctor said about the mental capability of people, like Madame Speaker, who refuse to answer at all?
Though it's also telling that someone in her position admittedly knows little about history. It shows, doesn't it?

St. Blogwen: I'm always suspicious of someone brainy asking me a question like that because I would first blurt out - "the third one" and then be torn up by doubting about blurting the first thing that came to my mind! LOL
Of course, someone serving us in such a capacity in government should have no hesitation at all and actually KNOW the answer!
