The Law of the Garbage Truck

I was looking through my mail after I got home from work yesterday and happened upon this coming month's newsletter from my church. I scanned through the usual thank you's and congratulations in there.... info about dinners to raise money for various other churches, etc. As I got to the middle of the newsletter I saw the words "Law of the Garbage Truck" and it piqued my curiosity. Here is what the item from The Country Register of Michigan had to say:

"One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches!

The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us.

My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly. So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!' This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dum and sometimes they'll dump it on you. Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so... love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't. Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Have a blessed, garbage-free day!"

I'm so glad you posted this! I work with a couple of people who are like garbage trucks, and I find them very difficult to deal with. This is the way to handle them. Now I just have to pray for the ability to smile, wave & wish them well.....

Around here, it's the garbage trucks themselves that are difficult to deal with. I've complained several times about them coming into our small subdivision at 6:30 a.m. and this past week it was 5:45 a.m. Can you imagine being sound asleep when a big truck rumbles up in front of your house and then just sits at the neighbor's driveway before it turns around using its back-up alarm, and then sits for another five minutes in front of the house across the street. It never fails to set my dogs off barking. It makes for a very grumpy morning.

I know this isn't the exact theme you were dealing with regarding garbage in your post, but I'm very anti-garbage truck right now.

Oh.....Sandy...
What a great post.
So many people are like garbage trucks, and we sometime forget to step into their shoes.
